A lightweight battle between fast rising prospects is the first addition to next month’s RFO: Big Guns 22, as Devonte Smith (4-0) and John Gunther (4-0) are set to square off at the event.
The bout pits unbeaten prospects from two of Ohio’s top gyms, as Smith represents Evolve MMA and Gunther trains at Strong Style MMA.
Smith comes in unbeaten since his amateur days in 2012, and he’s been impressive thus far as a pro. All four of his wins have come via knockout or TKO. In his last outing, he stopped Xavier Nash via TKO in the third round at Pinnacle FC 14. Before that, he knocked out Fred Stonehouse with vicious ground and pound at Gladiators of the Cage 21, and he kicked off the year with a TKO win over Mike Wiseman at Caged Madness 40.
Gunther was slated to compete this past weekend at Pinnacle FC 15, but his second straight bout was lost on fight week, as Nick Browne was injured and unable to compete. Gunther is unbeaten since his amateur days in 2013, and he’s kicked off his pro career with four straight wins. His most recent outing was a first round submission over Luke Ransbottom at Big Guns 18.
Big Guns 22 also features the RFO debut of Bellator veteran Brian Rogers, who will take on an opponent to be named in the main event.
Big Guns 22 takes place on Jan. 28 at the Richland County Fairgrounds in Mansfield, Ohio. The event airs live on FloCombat.
