Asher, Landwehr and Orr come up big following return fights
It was a big weekend for returning regional stars as we saw three big names make their way back into action. Last night was packed with big shows across the Ohio Valley region and beyond. Three big names made their comeback and all three found success.
Shaun Asher had retired following a fight last January in Florence. It was only right that he returned to Turf Way Park to make one last run at things. It was what we expected from the Alliance MMA powerhouse. Asher used his strength in wrestling to drop Kelly Pennington and get the first round finish. Asher has said he would love to get right back at it so be on the lookout for “The Bully” to make a fight announcement soon.
Reigning V3Fights female bantamweight champion Amberlynn Orr defended her title for the first time since last June. She was taking on the always tough Alyssa Vasquez. Orr was able to submit Vasquez in under two minutes, continuing her dominance. Orr was a clear cut fan favorite with a huge contingency at Minglewood Hall. It will be interesting to see what is next for Orr.
Another fan favorite Nate “The Train” Landwehr took a roadtrip from Clarksville, TN to Williamsport, PA to face Justin Steave in the co-main event for Gladiators of the Cage 15. Landwehr hadn’t fought since going five rounds with Adam Townsend in early 2014. He showed some signs of ring rust but was able to be the more active and aggressive fighter, nearly finishing Steave in the first round. Landwehr cut a typical promo after the fight by thanking himself and declaring that no one could beat him. He was indeed impressive in all facets.
