Shaun Asher is looking to find gold in Canada

Shaun Asher

Shaun “The Bully” Asher plans to stay busy this Spring as he recently announced two upcoming fights. First, the Alliance MMA fighter will return fight in front of his hometown fans in April. Then several weeks later he will make his way to the Great White North when he crosses the border in search of the Hardknocks Fighting light-heavyweight title.

At Turf Wars 24 on April 11 he will square off against veteran fighter Michael Cockerham (8-14). This will be the second fight of the year for Asher, and it should be an easy win for the thirty-five year old as he prepares for the biggest fight of his career.

In May, he will meet Hardknocks Fighting light-heavyweight champion Misha Cirkunov (8-2) of Toronto, Ontario, Canada at Hardknocks Fighting 43. Asher has the chance to capture gold for the second time in his professional career when he steps inside the cage of one of Canada’s largest promotions.

The one major detail missing from the Decatur, Ohio resident’s fight resume is a victory over a tough opponent. His lone opportunity of defeating a top-level fighter came when he was submitted by Jason Butcher at Bellator 78. After that loss, the only one of his professional career, he was able to rebound with two quick wins.

After his win against Robert Bennett in November of 2013, he took the microphone in his post-fight interview to announce in front of his hometown crowd that he was retiring. Many of us, including myself, knew this wouldn’t lost long. Just thirteen months after calling it quits, Asher was back inside the cage doing what he does best- winning. In his first fight back from retirement, Asher stopped Kelly Pennington in the first round at the last Turf Wars show.

The victory paired with his impressive record put him back on the radar including that of Hardknocks Fighting. So much so, that they offered him a shot at their champion, Misha Cirkunov.

You can watch Shaun Asher in action against Misha Cirkunov at Hardknocks Fighting 43 on May 22 live on iPPV. Stay tuned to BluegrassMMA.com for more information becomes available. In the meantime watch the promo video for the event:
