After reporting the main event featuring Clay Baker (0-0, 5-0 am) taking on Jeff Mack (0-1) almost a month ago, the card for the upcoming Turf Wars 28 event is finally coming together.
A second pro bout has been added to the event, as Strikeforce veteran Jason Riley (10-7) will take on 54-fight veteran Ronald Fields (23-30-1) in a heavyweight battle.
Riley is coming off of a second round TKO victory over Tim Dunn in May in what was his first appearance inside the cage in nearly three years. “The Juggernaut” also snapped a four-fight losing streak with that win, as he has stepped in across from some notable fighters including former UFC champion Tim Sylvia and current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.
A true pioneer of the sport, Fields made his pro debut in 2000 during the dark ages of MMA. He has competed in all corners of the country and globe, and has faced the likes of notables like Jeremy Horn and Alan Belcher. He’ll make his fourth apperance for Turf Wars, as he has gone 3-0 in his previous three bouts.
On the amateur side, Dylan Farris (6-2) will take on Tyler Witte. Farris was last in action at Hardrock MMA 74 in August, when he came up short against Nikolas Hoobler-Scherff.
In another intriguing bout, current Turf Wars light heavyweight champion Apineru Vele (4-1) will look to extend his three-fight winning streak when he faces Melvin Johnson (4-3). Johnson was last in action in 2013, when he actually competed twice at Turf Wars 7. After being submitted by Christopher Burchfield in the first round, he came back later in the night to knock out Douglas Davidson in the second round.
