It’s not even 2016, and already we have our first cancelled event of the year.
Kentucky promotion Turf Wars has cancelled their event that was slated to take place on Jan. 9 at Heritage Hall in Lexington. The KBWA confirmed the cancellation of the event on their official website.
After cancelling four of their seven planned events in 2015, many were questioning whether the organization would renew their Kentucky promoting license for 2016. They did renew their license, but the problems remain, as yet another event will fail to get off of the ground.
Turf Wars hasn’t held an event since August 8, as Turf Wars 27 went down at Turfway Park in Florence, Kentucky. That event had just five bouts, three of which were pro.
Many top tri-state area fighters have competed under the Turf Wars banner, including the likes of Shaun Asher, Billy “Mojo” Horne, Eric Moell, Chris Dunn, and more.
Turf Wars 25 was scheduled to go down on June 20, but inclement weather forced the outdoor event to be cancelled. The event was rescheduled for July 17, but was cancelled after the promotion didn’t have enough fights to fill the card.
Then, the organization cancelled an event on Oct. 17 in Florence with the same problems.
And finally, a planned event on Nov. 21 was forced to be cancelled after the venue where the fights were supposed to take place was double-booked.
No bouts were rumored for the Jan. 9 event, and it remains to be seen if the once flourishing promotion will ever bounce back after cancelling their fifth event in less than a year.
