Warrior Nation Fight Series 35 is headed to the Veterans Memorial Coliseum for “Marion-Mania”, and the promotion is pulling out all of the stops for their biggest event in the venue that has 3,500 permanent seats and a total capacity of 5,500.
Matchmaker Rick Fitch today confirmed with BluegrassMMA that a pair of pro bouts will highlight the deep card, as John Gunther (2-0) and Portland Pringle (7-4) will square off at a catchweight of 165 pounds, while Jeffrey Pelton (1-0) and Darryl Madison (5-10) will throw down at welterweight.
Gunther has started off his pro career with back-to-back wins after an impressive 11-2 amateur career. He made his pro debut last March with a unanimous decision over Xavier Nash at NAAFS: Caged Vengeance 16 and then stopped Chris Tucker via TKO in the first round at RFO: Big Guns 17 in October. The Strong Style product has had his first two pro bouts at lightweight but will be stepping up here to face Pringle at the catchweight.
Pringle snapped a three-fight losing streak with a second round TKO stoppage over Timmy McCavit at IT Fight Series 36 last September. The Kentucky native is currently ranked as the No. 2 Pro Welterweight in the BluegrassMMA Rankings.
Pelton submitted Keith Bullock in his pro debut last April at WNFS 30 after a 5-1 amateur career that saw him capture the NAAFS amateur lightweight title in 2014.
Indiana’s Madison will come in with the experience advantage, but he is just 2-5 over the past two years. Most recently, he was submitted via heel hook in a bout with Adrain Hadribeaj at TXC Legends 5 just under a year ago.
WNFS 35 takes place on Feb. 20 at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum and tickets are available here.
WNFS is planning a live stream of this event and more information on the fight card is expected to be released in the coming days.
