Valor Fights returns to Knoxville this Friday, and the lineup is set for Valor Fights 39. A total of seven bouts are set, including a pair of title bouts and a Muay Thai fight.
In the main event, middleweight champion Sid Wheeler (5-1) is set to defend his title against Brendan Allen (5-1). Both fighters are top flight prospects, and a win here could put one of the two 20-year-olds into consideration for a contract with a national promotion.
Wheeler has spent his entire career under the Valor Fights banner, and he looks to successfully defend his title for the third time after winning it in a memorable bout against Julio Gallegos last October. “The All-American Kid” is actually coming in off of a loss, as he was submitted by late replacement Gerald Meerchaert at Valor Fights 36 in August. Meerschaert is now in the UFC, and Wheeler has stated that his goal is to follow the veteran into the Octagon.
Allen hails from Louisiana and comes in looking to spoil the Wheeler’s comeback bid. He has earned finishes in all five of his wins, including a pair of TKOs and his last three via submission. The last outing for the Legacy FC veteran was a win over Matthew Jones in his home state in September.
In the co-feature, Georgia’s CJ Hamilton (9-4) and Cory Alexander (9-7) will square off for the vacant flyweight title.
Hamilton is a Legacy FC and Titan FC veteran, and he’s won his last four outings. He looks to pick up his first pro title with a win here.
Alexander has bounced back and forth between flyweight and bantamweight, but his record is much better when competing at 125 pounds. He comes in with a 6-2 record in his last 8 bouts.
A pair of MMA veterans will square off in a heavyweight Muay Thai bout, as Dustin Long takes on Michael Cockerham. The bout was a late addition to the card, but Long is a fan favorite in Tennessee and Cockerham always shows up to fight.
Popular fighter Jason King (3-1) returns to action, as the Knoxville product takes on Wesley Golden (4-7) in a welterweight bout. King has won his last two outings, while Golden has dropped three straight.
Arthur Ceesay (0-0) closed out his amateur career with a perfect 3-0 record after a win over Tyler Wright at Valor Fights 38, and he makes his pro debut here against Georgia native Brandon Webb (2-1). Webb has the advantage in experience, with a pair of decision wins already under his belt.
Another Knoxville product, Dre Miley (1-1) looks to bounce back from a loss at Valor Fights 38, as he takes on Michael Whaley (2-3) in a flyweight bout. Miley is an interesting story because he only has vision out of one eye. Whaley comes in looking for his second straight win.
In the final pro bout, Cole Ferrell (1-0) looks to advance his perfect record against Brandon Grimmett (0-7).
