A pair of UFC veterans are set to headline this weekend’s UCL: CutThroat event in Hammond, Indiana, as Dan Stittgen (9-4) and Jason Gilliam (13-7) will square off for the interim UCL welterweight title.
Stittgen, who hails from Illinois, was 7-1 when he signed with the UFC, but went 0-2 in the Octagon before receiving his pink slip in 2012. He rebounded with a pair of stoppage victories after that, but he came up short in his most recent outing, as he was TKO’d by current UFC fighter Joavin Webb with just eight seconds left to go in their fight at CFFC 38 last August.
Stittgen will face the 42-year-old Gilliam, who also went 0-2 in the UFC in 2007. His losses were to well respected fighters Jamie Varner and Chris Lytle, and he went on a three-fight winning streak after being cut from the organization. He hasn’t earned a victory since 2009, however, and is currently riding a streak where he has lost five straight bouts via first round stoppage.
The night’s co-main event will feature bitter rivals, as Terry House Jr. (6-8) takes on Guillermo Serment (4-7). You can check out some background on the beef between these two fighters, who were supposed to square off a few years ago, .
In another intriguing bout, standout bantamweight Robert Menigoz (8-1) will take on Rufusport Academy product and former NCAA Division II wrestling champion Raufeon Stots (2-0) in a 135-pound battle.
Three other pro fights are also set for the event, as well as five amateur contests for an 11-bout card.
