Adam Townsend returns home in Apex Fights 10 headliner

Tennessee native Adam Townsend (14-4) is set to return home, when “Prime Time” faces Jeffrey Holmes (5-4) in the main event at Apex Fights 10 on March 19 in Kingsport, Tennesee.
Townsend fights locally for the first time since last January, as he had a three-fight stint with RFA in 2015. He won his first two RFA bouts over a pair of UFC veterans in Yuri Villefort and Ryan Roberts, but he came up short against Ernest Chavez in the RFA 33 headliner in December.
In his last bout under the Apex banner, he tapped Craig Johnson with a rear naked choke in the third round at Apex Fights 4 last January. Towsend had an eight-fight winning streak snapped with that loss to Chavez and he looks to rebound with a win here over Holmes.
Holmes, a Kentucky native, has been fighting since 2006 and made his pro debut in 2009. He is riding a three-fight winning streak with all three wins via stoppage. Most recently, he choked out Joe Maiani in just 1:09 at Hardrock MMA 70 last February.
Also in pro action will be rising star Jonathan Pearce (3-0), who faces former Valor MMA and kickboxing champion Nick Martino (0-0, 4-4 am). Pearce has picked up two knockout wins in three bouts, including his motst recent victory over Chris Wright Jr. at Valor Fights 26 in September. Martino closed out his amateur career with a first round arm bar over Dalton Smith at Valor Fights 28 last Halloween.
In a third pro bout, South Carolina’s Michael Whaley (0-0, 6-4 am) is set to face Devin Ward (1-0). Whaley closed out his 6-4 amateur career in November and is actually set to make his pro debut at Next Level Fight Club 4 this weekend. Ward choked out Brandon Grimmett in his pro debut at Valor Fights 26 in September.
In amateur action, strawweight champion Genia Goodin (3-0) will defend her title against Virginia’s Idella Peace (3-1), while light heavyweight champion Doug Williams (9-2) will defend his title against an opponent to be determined.
Apex Fights 10 takes place on March 19 at the Kingsport Civic Auditorium in Kingsport, Tennessee.
