We’re just over a week away from Cody Garbrandt’s shot at Dominick Cruz’s UFC bantamweight title, but there was a time just a few years ago when “No Love” was an unknown prospect from Ohio making his pro debut.
That pro debut came at Pinnacle FC 1 in December 2012, and the Uhrichsville, Ohio native will be fighting for a world title just four years and one day after his first pro fight.
Garbrandt’s opponent was Virginia native Charles Kessinger, who already had three pro bouts under his belt with a 2-1 record.
The bout took place due to some last minute shuffling, as both fighters were originally slated to face different opponents.
Kessinger dropped Garbrandt in the first round and looked for a guillotine choke, but he was unable to finish the submission.
