The first-ever women’s flyweight title fight in organization history has been added to next month’s CFFC 55, as Katlyn Chookagian (5-0) will take on Isabelly Varella (7-0) for the inaugural belt.
Renzo Gracie/All Star BJJ product Chookagian is undefeated as a pro and is already a WSOF veteran along with holding a 2-0 record under the CFFC banner. She was also 7-0 as an amateur, including winning the NAAFS women’s title in 2013. The New Jersey native most recently competed on Halloween, when she defeated Sijara Eubanks via decision at CFFC 52.
Just 18 years old, Varela has put together a perfect record fighting in her native Brazil, including three submission wins. The Imperio Fight product made her pro debut two years ago when she was just 16.
With the UFC reportedly set to add a women’s flyweight division in the near future, the winner of this fight could be on the short list for a trip to the Octagon.
Also at the same event, CFFC featherweight champion Jeff Lentz (10-5-1) will defend his title against Bill Algeo (7-2).
CFFC 55 takes place on Jan. 9 at th Borgata in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The main card will air on the CBS Sports Network.
