Colosseum Combat XXXVI
Colosseum Combat XXXVI marked the promotion’s return to the Kokomo Event Center in Kokomo, Indiana on Saturday night. Despite a tornado rolling through the town earlier in the week, the show still went on.
Promoter Mark Slater teamed with the local Red Cross, who were taking donations at the event for those displaced by the tornado. Part of the venue that wasn’t used for the fights was actually a temporary shelter for those affected, and the people who were using the shelter were invited to watch the night’s fights for free.
The fight card featured 12 bouts, including six in the pro ranks. Many names familiar to Colosseum Combat fans were in action, including Rocky France (4-7), who topped Tyler Combs (15-13) via submission in the first round of the main event.
In the co-feature, Keith Smetana (10-5) knocked out Tony Parker (13-13) in just 59 seconds to claim the promotion’s vacant middleweight title.
Lightweight Joe Lile, Jr. (6-2) also returned from a long layoff, as he topped the previously unbeaten Jameson Sharp (3-0) via decision.
Welterweight Aaron Highbaugh (4-0) advanced his perfect record, as he stopped Christopher Blevins (2-3) with a cut in between the first and second rounds.
Amateur bantamweight champion Janson Golightly (5-1-1) retained his title, as he topped the returning Justen Dowsett (11-8) via unanimous decision.
