The Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Commission has released the following statement on the passing of amateur fighter Donshay White following his bout at Hardrock MMA 90 on Saturday night, via Kentucky Public Protection Cabinet Communications Director Elizabeth Kuhn:

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Donshay White following his passing on Saturday.

Mr. White was attended to by a licensed ringside physician and first responders immediately following his bout, and he received onsite medical attention before being transported via ambulance to the hospital.

The health and safety of Kentucky’s combat sports athletes is the highest priority of the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Commission, and the commission is reviewing all of the details surrounding this tragic event.”

As BluegrassMMA first reported, White – also known as Donnie – passed away after collapsing backstage at the event at Expo Five in Louisville, Kentucky.

There were multiple medical personnel in attendance at the event as per KBWC regulations, and White received immediate medical attention before being transported to a nearby hospital. Another fighter collapsed later in the night following a bout, and medical personnel were forced to leave the building to attend to him. At this point, the event was stopped and remaining bouts were cancelled by the KBWC. BluegrassMMA has received word that the second fighter, Kalen Ray, has recovered and is good condition.

The promotion, Hardrock MMA, released the following statement on its Facebook page earlier today:

Hardrock MMA joins the entire MMA community in mourning Donshay White. As a promotion who has put together 89 events over the last 8 years without incident, we always have and we will continue to put our fighters safety above all else. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.

BluegrassMMA has also received a statement from White’s family, via his cousin James Coffman Jr.:

On behalf of the family we thank you for all the prayers.

We are continuing to work on any additional information from this tragedy and will release any additional details as we receive them.
