Originally Jeremy Pender (12-12) was scheduled to fight Justin King at Colosseum Combat XXXVIII. Just over an hour, ago promoter Mark Slater that King suffered an injury that forced him off the card.
“When an injury happens to a fighter, as a matchmaker you have 2 options. A) scrap the fight. Or B) make an even better matchup“, Slater posted. Stepping up to take the challenge on four weeks notice is “The Psycho” Ryan Brettingham (3-2).
Brettingham returned from a two-year layoff last year. Before his return to action, he suffered two straight losses after he earned a first-round submission in his debut matchup. Last year the Michigan native won back to back victories including a second round submission against Anthony Fleming.
The Sbardella MMA fighter who holds a blue belt in jiu-jitsu had this to say about the bout, “I’ll be stamping my name into that state and bring home the W for Michigan MMA.”
Pender, a veteran of the cage, won two of his last three bouts is looking to rebound from his recent title fight. The Vision MMA fighter dropped a split decision to bantamweight champion Llyod Carter last year.
